I had joint fusion of 2 fingers of my right hand 4 years ago. When the sutures were removed, one was left in which I removed before my next visit. After the rods were taken out I moved from the area. All was well until about 6 months ago when I began to have recurring infections of one of the fingers. Today my doctor removed a suture that was left in and was causing the problem. This was a deep suture that initially was healed over. I have no idea if it was supposed to be an external one that became imbedded in the tissue or if it was supposed to dissolve. Pretty upsetting.
